LECA Juniors 2015

What is it?

LECA Juniors is an exciting new  competition for children and young people of all ages from babies to teenagers and is all about having fun with arts and crafts.

LECA Juniors is part of The Linda Eaton Craft Awards which has been running in Blackpool for four years now and we are all really excited to be able to start this new competition for under 16 year olds.

Imagination and creativity are what LECA Juniors is all about but more than that it is about having fun.

There are no real rules for the competition. We just want you to paint, draw or make something that we can all enjoy looking at. As long as it is art or crafts then anything goes!

Art means either painting a picture in any type of paint or drawing a picture in felt pens, crayons, pencils, wax crayons or any other type of pens or pencils. It can also include collages where you make a picture out of lots of other pictures that you maybe have cut out of magazines or out of bits of material or felt that you can stick on to a board or canvas.

Crafts means making something out of card or paper, papier mache or out of things like plastecine or modeling clay. It could also mean making models or jewellery or knitting and sewing something. In fact, it can be anything you want!

How does it work?

LECA Juniors will have three separate sections based on ages. These will be 0 – 5 years, 6 – 10 years and 11 – 15 years. Young people who have reached the age of 16 are old enough to enter the main Linda Eaton Craft Awards.

In both the 0 – 5 and 6 -10 year groups there are just two categories. The first is Art, Painting and Drawing and the second is Making & Crafting.

In the 11 – 16 year group there are four categories for you to enter. These are Art, Painting & Drawing, Card & Paper Crafts, Fabrics & Textiles and 3D Arts & Crafts. We will tell you a little bit more about what each category covers in the next Newsletter.

In all three age groups each category will have a Winner & Runner Up who will be given a special trophy and in the 11 – 15 age group there will also be an overall Winner and Runner Up.

Everyone who enters LECA Juniors will also be given a special Certificate of Achievement that you can put up on your wall and show to your friends.

You can either enter on your own or with friends or you can ask your teacher to help you and make it a class project.
